Murphy
Entry Date 6/01/2003
The first inductee of the Hall of Fame was the player who introduced the slingshot to Conquest. He was without a doubt the best player never to win a round of s/a and God knows he deserved to. He played hard, he could handle himself and was was also the first guy to ever post a newbie guide of any sort. Murphy was once leader of OTA, one of the legend clans in Conquest history. His trademark country name was Predator. He helped the DogZ become the force they were in their first incarnation. All in all, he has more than many other players changed this game and the community. - eire

Murphy was a great player. I didnt really like Conquest a great deal starting out untill I met with Murphy. IMCO had been great, was great, but OTA seemed something else. IMCO was more powerfull at the time, but OTA was a different clan. At the present I cant honestly say I remember WHY Murphy made OTA. I really didnt even know I was a good player finishing 15th or 10th my first round then even. Murphy led differently then others. In the beginning we even had TipDaVampire and Karnack with allowed access to our forums, boy did that change lol! Murphy and EE started fighting really soon! I say Murphy and EE because a lot of us wasnt sure about fighting EE. Back then S/A was THE fighting server, and H/A was some joke losers played lack lusterly. Well, luckily it didnt take more than one round for me to get my fighting spirit. The easiest early memory of warring together is back to Round 7 H/A. TipDaVampire had funcash that would never end; Murphy and him fought a great deal, As Murphies ally I helped him the best I thought I could lol! We paved Tips lower country into a parking lot, but later the round he did the same to murphies and rebuilt his former parking lot in a day. Murphy also had many countries originally that round, but quit all but two.

The real fights were in S/A though. I had the same allies in Rick13/Lambi/Murphy for 5 or more rounds. That was in the days I enjoyed it . The typical was EEs strongest allied bunch would take on us (OTAs) strongest allied bunch. Guess who that was lol! It wasnt too bad because we typically went over zealous and I remember one round I convinced Chaz my country was Zantasias because spydi or someone said so in their forums, lol! But more importantly about the rounds I fought with Murphy... It wasnt too hard like I said, You would go for one EE and hope to take it out of commision long enough to evade their allies. Back then attacking had long-term consequences. Murphy would be the most antagonistic one of all. Back in Round 8 his sole mission was to make karnack do worse than him, and he did by 5 positions! It left me and my allies without him on top but we had already lucked out with EE that round with nothing but lucky attacks. Of course this all lacks our defeats, which is hard for me to share because I didnt share them like Murphy did. Murphy personally took the fall in most of the rounds and noone else did. I dont know if EE had special love of him but he always landed at the brunt of it. That and his predictable country names probably lost him his chance to ever really win S/A. If Murphy came back he would win it in 3 rounds. The only reason why it wouldnt take one is now its cashier, and no alliances. I learned a lot with Murphy.

We often talked on IM and I remember when we first discussed slings. He started them a few rounds ago before it started getting public use. I think I underplayed their power due to the fact he was in Dogz! LoL! Then again my memory might not be quite right there. I made the strategy avaible to AIM friends but Murphy debuting it to Dogz made it so much more public.... DOH! But more importantly I perfected Indy with him in S/A. Round 6 was the first round I tried to perfect Indy with Murphy. I learned the strategy, but I didnt do anywhere near as well as he did. He of already grasped the strategy firmly from what I believe was talking with karnack and tip! He even fowarded me a strategy karnack sent him. I was shocked he was even on speaking terms with karnack . He was 4th under Rick, Tip, and Karnie that round. Round 7 EE vs. OTA first really happened. It was going to happen for a long time, and it finally did. The battles went on all month long (I favored a "keep my country secret the first week" strategy) and Murphy was at the brunt of their attacks. I prefered making parking lots, Murphy LOVED FARMING countries! (back then landgrabbing could cost you a lot of networth)

Finally, Murphy was a cool guy; which is probably going to be the hardest thing to make people understand. He was all for finding the new strategy and trying to win #1. I would do it with him but he would always been the leader in the quest. It was quite not-fun that Indy always come up on top with few variances. I realized Indys dominance but he always played around with it trying to hit perfection. Finally, I guess I have to talk about his Dogz days. Id say he did it for three reasons. a) EEs downfall b) His love for country farming c) His sentiments that he hadnt taught me properly if I couldnt beat him!!! Now, I dont think you need me to go into depth about him and Dogz, just suffice it to say he was the clans backbone as much as randy was its leader. I dont know how much people know about his real life self, but I remember he shot squirrels off his porch, loved kentucky college basketball, and was always working on his bonsai trees. And, no matter what game he is playing now, he is probably still working on this bonsai trees. Which he was the last I spoke to him...
